ABOUT THE BAND

James Hetfield
_____________________________________________________________
James Hetfield does the vocals and guitar playing for Metallica. He was born in Downey, California in 1963 “to Christian Science parents, a religion he would dismiss later on. Feeling isolated from his high school classmates (and in the wake of his mother's death when he was a teenager), Hetfield turned to play guitar” (Prato, “James”). After playing with a few garage bands he finally settled with Lars Ulrich to create the band we know and love today.

Kirk Hammett
_____________________________________________________________
Kirk Hammett is the lead guitarist for Metallica. He was born in San Francisco in 1962 to a Filipino mother and American father (Prato, “Kirk”). After being drawn to his brother’s record collection and guitar, Kirk Hammett began to play the guitar. From then on he worked on his own style of play and has become one of the most recognizable guitar players in the rock scene. Before joining the Metallica crew, Hammett had played for a different band called Exodus.

Lars Ulrich
_____________________________________________________________
Lars Ulrich is the drummer for Metallica. He was born in Denmark in 1963 to a danish mother and father who was a professional danish tennis player (Prato, “Lars”). For a good while, Ulrich wanted to follow in his father and grandfather’s footsteps and become a tennis player. The family moved to California during the ’80s and from there Lars decided to drop tennis and start playing music. After creating an ad in a newspaper to start a band, Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield created the band Metallica and Lars became their drummer.

Robert Trujillo
_____________________________________________________________
Robert Trujillo is the most recent bass player for Metallica. Robert was born in 1964 in Santa Monica to a Hispanic and Native American family (“Metallica: Robert Trujillo”). After becoming a big fan of a few different jazz bassists, Robert Trujillo decided to pick up the bass and start to play. Trujillo followed a career path with popular bands such as Ozzy Osbourne and Suicidal Tendencies before joining Metallica during the production of the album St. Anger. He had even played with the Black Label Society on and off. After Jason Newstead had quit Metallica Trujillo tried out for the band and was brought into Metallica as its most recent bass player (“Metallica: Robert Trujillo”).
